February 9th Speaker Topic: Sunfish Dive Boat

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

The Sunfish dive boat, owned by Andy and Michelle Volaski, is located in the Channel  Islands Harbor, Oxnard and is used primarily for day dive trips to Anacapa and Santa Cruz islands, Grace oil rig, wrecks and diving along the coast.

The Sunfish and her crew look forward to taking divers to dive spots not normally visited, hence our motto “Striving for Different Diving”. Our crew is well trained, great with people, believe in personal service and are there to help you out. They will help make your day on the Sunfish a very enjoyable one.

Although the Sunfish doe’s not have any bunks, we do our best to make up for it, from the limited load trips (only 16 divers), different dive spots, great air fills (3500psi), easy exits and entries to the personal service, good food and free beer at the end of the day plus we will fill your tank on the way in, we guarantee you’ll have a great time diving with us. We also have a frequent dive card to help get you out diving more.

A few facts about the Sunfish. The Sunfish was built in the early 60’s and served many years with the Island Packers fleet. Andy and Michelle bought the Sunfish in 2003 and spent 2 years completely rebuilding, refurbishing and modifying her into a well thought out dive boat. The Sunfish is 53’x20’ and very stable with a cruising speed of 12 knots which makes Anacapa  45-60 minutes away. She is low to the water which makes for easy loading and unloading and easy entry and exits into the water. There is a galley that seats 12-14, bathroom, changing room, outside hot shower, twin Nuvair 5000psi compressors, live fish well with cleaning area, large dive deck  and a large rear dive platform and swim step. We can accommodate all divers from beginners to tech with doubles and rebreathers.

For more information about the crew and pictures and specifications on the Sunfish, please visit  our website at www.socaldive.com.  We also have our monthly newsletter, blog, dive schedule and more on our website.  Any questions, please call  us at (805) 204-0977 or email us at sunfishdives@yahoo.com .

California Diving News Launches CADivingNews.com 2.0

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

After being a staple magazine in California dive stores for 25 years, CDN creates a strong online presence with its newly revamped website.

California Diving News is proud to announce a newly redesigned CADivingNews.com. The newest version will include a searchable database featuring articles dating back to the inception of the magazine 25 years ago. The new site will also include a searchable database of stores and boats throughout California and surrounding states. The dive boat trip calendar, an immensely popular feature on its previous sites and in the magazine itself, has also become much more user friendly. The site was designed to let any diver, California native or potential California visitor, research dive sites, locate a store or look up a boat trip, all in one place.

When designing the site, CDN wanted to put the most amount of information possible at the diver’s fingertips. “There have been so many good articles published in CDN over the years, we wanted a way to let everybody out there access it,” said marketing director Christopher D. Sheckler. “We want everyone to have the opportunity to learn about the hundreds of dive sites that are along the shores of California. We really believe this is the premier website for California divers. Finally, one website has just about anything you wanted to know about California scuba diving.”

The site also includes past articles about diving techniques, photography, marine life and gear reviews, written by regular contributors such as Bruce Watkins, Nancy Vander Velde, Bonnie Cardone, Ken Kurtis and Dale and Kim Sheckler.
